What needs attention
A musty room after an extended closure. A room opened after time away needs observations about its present condition rather than a guessed history. Which moisture and source observations can be recorded before assuming when growth began?

A closed-room history may be incomplete
Mustiness noticed when a room is reopened does not establish when the underlying condition began. Record the present visible surfaces, known water events and dated maintenance information. The absence period is context, while current moisture and an identified source are separate findings that require an appropriate property assessment.
Keep an uncertain starting date in the report
Ask the findings to distinguish what is observed now from a reconstructed history. If records cannot explain the source, identify the next authorized investigation rather than assigning the cause to closure alone. Cleanup and any proposed source repair should follow the assessed condition, not an invented date for growth onset.
Access for the affected space
If an owner is away, identify an authorized local contact and agree how access, changes and completion records will be approved. A caretaker’s observation and authority to change the property are separate matters. For an investigation, provide existing source-repair records and explain which concealed area can be accessed with permission.
